I have been extremely blessed in this life with two beautiful little girls, both of whom entered into this world via C-section, one an emergency and one planned. Their births were the two best days of my life, instantly sensing that motherhood was about to completely change me. With my first daughter, Erin, the birth scene was frantic and chaotic and everyone’s thoughts were on getting this new little babe out safely, not to capture the moments on film (at that time, digital was not the commonplace as it is now). Literally, all that I have as a record for her debut into the world is a Polaroid picture that our NICU nurse took of her…not the scrapbook images that I had envisioned.

With my second child, Megan, the birth was planned down to the last tiny detail, so I was hopeful for some better pictures. My husband, usually not even capable of remaining conscious in the operating room, did a decent job capturing some memories. However, even his most valiant efforts did not live up to my unreasonable expectations. He could not have done any better than he did…after all, he was an active participant in this process too! What we needed was a third party…someone who was not physically involved and who could capture all of the tender moments of our new little creation.

And so begins another avenue of interest for me…documenting the intimacy of your birth experience. As a seasoned pediatric nurse (I wear many hats in this world!), I am completely familiar and comfortable with the nitty-gritty of anatomy and birth. I am currently seeking a volunteer couple or two to have their births documented in a completely tasteful, discrete, photojournalistic style. As a thank you token for allowing me to share in this intimate experience, the couple will receive a CD with all of their digital images on it as well as a small memory album. I will capture the raw emotion and beauty of their babe’s first breaths of life so that everyone involved can enjoy the moment and not have to worry about their camera.
